Privacy Policy for BibelWallpaper

Who we are

BibelWallpaper is an Android app that shows Bible verses as wallpaper on the lock screen and/or home screen of your device and changes them automatically. It also has a companion app for Wear OS watches.

Summary

BibelWallpaper does not collect any personal data, and the developer never receives any data from the app. The app:

Data stored on your device

The app stores the following only on your device, in its private storage:

Uninstalling the app deletes all of this data.

Backup and moving to a new phone

If backup to your Google account is turned on in your phone's settings, Android may include the app's settings, verse history and favorites in your personal device backup, so they can be restored after reinstalling the app or on a new phone. This backup is created and stored by Android and Google in your own Google account; the developer has no access to it. The copies of your photos (for the wallpaper and for widgets) are excluded from this cloud backup. You can turn backup off at any time in your phone's settings.

If you move to a new phone directly (by cable or Wi-Fi), Android may transfer all app data, including the photo copies, from one phone to the other. The developer is not involved in this transfer.

Photo access

If you choose background images, the app uses Android's built-in photo picker. Through it, the app gets access only to the images you selected, not to your gallery. The app saves resized copies of them (up to 50) in its private storage, so your wallpaper keeps working even if the originals are deleted. You can remove any copy in the app. The copies are used only to draw your wallpaper, are not included in cloud backups and never leave your phone through the app.

A home screen widget can have its own photo background, chosen the same way. The app keeps one resized copy per widget in its private storage; it is used only to draw that widget and is deleted when you remove the widget or choose another background.

Settings export and import

The app can save your settings to a file and read them back. The file is written only to the place you choose and contains settings such as language, font, colors and update mode. It does not contain your photos. The app does not send this file anywhere.

Sharing, copying and saving verses

When you use "Share", the verse is passed as text or as an image to the app you choose (for example, a messenger). To share an image, the app creates it temporarily in its own cache. "Copy" puts the verse text on your phone's clipboard. Nothing is shared unless you do it yourself.

When you tap "Save", the verse picture is saved to your phone's gallery (on Android 10 and newer in the "Pictures/BibelWallpaper" album; on older Android in the place you choose). No storage permission is needed for this. Saved pictures belong to you: they stay in your gallery until you delete them, also after uninstalling the app.

Bug reports

If you tap "Report a bug", your own email app opens with a prepared message that contains the app version, the Android version and the phone model. Nothing is sent unless you send the email yourself. Emails received this way are used only to reply to you and to fix problems.

Rating the app

After about a week of use, the app may once show the Google Play rating window. This window is provided by Google Play, not by the app: your rating and review are sent to Google under Google's privacy policy. The app itself does not see your rating and sends nothing. For this the app includes Google's Play review library, which only opens that window.

Home screen widgets

The widgets show verses from the app's built-in collection and work on the same principles: no data leaves your device.

Wear OS watch

The watch app shows verses from its own built-in collection in the app, on a tile, as a complication on watch faces and on the BibelWallpaper watch face. It works without the phone and without the internet. Its settings (language, change interval, text size, colors) and favorite verses are stored only on the watch, in the app's private storage; uninstalling the watch app deletes them.

If the phone app and the watch app are both installed, they keep your favorite verses and the verse language the same on both devices. For this, the phone and the watch exchange only the language code and the numbers of your favorite verses, directly between your own devices through the Wear OS connection provided by Google Play services. This information is not sent to the developer or to anyone else.

On Wear OS 6 and newer, the watch app can install the BibelWallpaper watch face, which is included inside the app, and, if you allow it, make it your active watch face. The watch face has no code of its own and only shows what the watch app gives it.

When you tap the watch button in the phone app and the watch app is not installed, the phone opens the BibelWallpaper page of Google Play on your watch. Installing it there is handled by Google Play.

Permissions

Android's system components used for background work also add small technical permissions, such as keeping the phone awake for a moment while the verse changes and checking whether a network is available. The app does not request the internet, location, contacts, microphone, camera, or storage permissions and cannot connect to the internet. None of these permissions is used to access personal data.

Children

The app does not collect data from anyone, including children, and is suitable for all ages.

Changes to this policy

If this privacy policy changes, an updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
